The opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics was a quick history lesson of London, from farm land through the Industrial Revolution to today. They really emphasized the pollution during this time period, apparently right down to the smell. The message that I received was, “Here is how we killed our planet!” Now, I understand that this time period was necessary to get to the point in technology we are today. Was it really necessary to create a celebration of pollution? Throughout time London has been an intricate part of world history, so why spend 10 minutes raising smoke stacks and filling the stadium with smoke?
I am disappointed to say the least, in the beginning. The remainder of the ceremony was very well done and I greatly enjoyed it. Mr. Bean was AWESOME! Glad that the Sex Pistols and Prodigy got some play.
